Seriously, there’s not much you can do with them (yet). They’re basically avatars and buddy icons. Only three games utilize them, Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Warioware: Smooth Moves. They’re as much fun as those animated AIM Buddy Icons that AOL is trying to sell.
Though making Miis are a lot of fun (especially when there’s a group of people). When I bought the Wii with me to college, it was like bringing home a baby for the first time. Family members fawned over it and commented how small it was. The first thing my friends did were make Mii’s of ourselves.
The Mii Channel is like a funhouse mirror in your living room. You play around with the sliders. You make yourself taller, fatter, or blonder. You make yourself, you make others. And once you’ve exhausted the number of family and friends to make Mii’s of, you make Mii’s of celebrities and fictional characters. Why would you do this? For the same reason why anyone would commission drawn caricatures of themselves or celebrities. It’s whimsical. It’s novel.
Unlike Internet avatars, Mii’s can travel to other Wii’s via Connect24 or the Wii-motes. They’re like viral videos except they tend to be more innocuous. It’s a pleasant surprise to boot up the Wii and see your friends, your friends’ friends, and celebrities parading on the Mii Channel. It’s like collecting MySpace friends for the gamers set but even less effort. –>
